Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz is on its way! Information on upcoming workshops.
Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz, a charming and humorous spin on the classic tale, invites children in the audience to help the spunky heroine and her friends escape from the Wicked Witch of the West. L. Frank Baum's perennially favorite characters are featured in this play, penned by Steve and Kathy Hotchner.

The production, to be presented at McIntosh High School's black box theatre between February 18 and March 3, will feature a combined professional and apprentice cast. Professional cast members include LeeAnna Lambert (recently Olivia in Offshoot's Twelfth Night), Jason Vaughn and Alisha Winfrey. Apprentices are Chelsea Cooper, Christine Drummond, Melissa Hamilton, Don Jenkins, Katy Jenkins and Rebecca Kling. Sceneographer A. Bryant Betsill, Jr. will head up the technical aspects of the production once again. Mood music is composed by Paige Steadman.

The show kicks off on Monday, February 18, with special President's Day performances at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Regular performances are Fridays, February 22 and March 1 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturdays, February 23 and March 2 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; and Sundays, February 24 and March 3 at 3 p.m.

Tickets, which are $5 in advance and $6 at the door, are available ahead of time at the Peachtree City Library, 201 Willowbend Road, (770) 631-2520; the Fayette County Library, 1821 Heritage Parkway, (770) 461-8841; and Omega Book Store, 100 N. Peachtree Parkway, Peachtree City, (770) 487-3977. Groups with 15 or more members are eligible for discounted tickets, with purchase in advance.

Offshoot will offer three acting workshops for adults and teens 14 and older and two workshops for children this winter. All will be held at the Peachtree City Library, with instructors (usually two or three per workshop) drawn from Offshoot's professional cast and staff.

The first workshop, Tools of the Trade: The Actor's Body, will take place on Sunday, January 13, from 1:45 to 4:45. The second, Commedia dell'arte and Today's Actor, will take place on Sunday, January 20, from 1:45 to 4:45. The third session will be of interest to both actors and directors. Developing the Ensemble Performance will take place on Saturday, February 2, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. The cost of each of these three-hour sessions is $28. Discounts are available to participants enrolling in two or more workshops. Presented as part of Generation Arts Month, two workshops for youngsters are slated for Sunday, March 10. Each workshop costs $1 (no, that's not a typo); children with a ticket stub from Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz will get in for free! Preregistration is required. From 1:30 to 2:45 p.m., children aged 6 to 8 will enjoy Creative Dramatics, and from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m., participants aged 9 to 13 will learn about Developing Characters through Improvisation. Workshop size is limited, so be sure to get registration forms in as early as possible. To receive a form, simply call or e-mail the Offshoot office.
